Our support

Bright Start Children’s Centre and Family Centre Services

The service supports families living in B&NES providing Early Help services tailored to support families with children aged 0-8 years to improve child and family focused outcomes.  The team can help support parents if they are finding it hard being a parent, struggling with their finances, concerned about their child’s development, or thinking about returning to work.

Carers Centre

Supporting adults and young unpaid carers to assist with Information, advice and support around their caring role, creating an emergency plan, advice on financial aid, including potential grant and funding opportunities, emotional wellbeing and wellbeing activities and peer support activities.

Family support

Southside family support is offered to families in BANES who have children aged between 5 to 19 years old living with them and are at a point where they feel ready to make changes. The family must meet at least four of the ten priority group to qualify for support: 

  • Family affected by trauma.
  • Domestic abuse.
  • Family relationship difficulties.
  • Physical health difficulties.
  • Mental health difficulties.
  • Family affected by substance misuse.
  • Education or SEN needs.
  • Risk of abuse or exploitation.
  • Family member at risk of offending behaviour, past or present.
  • Financial instability.

Supporting families who require intensive intervention

The Connecting Families service helps families achieve positive outcomes for themselves. The family must have at least one person under the age of 18 years old living with them in a B&NES address household and meet at least three headline criteria, such as:

  • Poor school attendance or not engaging with education.
  • Mental health or drug and alcohol difficulties.
  • Need to improve family relationships and/or keep themselves or their children safe from domestic violence, child abuse, and exploitation.
  • Need support with housing and/or finance issues.
  • Looking to move into work.

Wellbeing Courses

Discover free and low-cost wellbeing courses across Bath and North East Somerset for residents. Wide range of courses covering everything from creativity and music, mindfulness, yoga, and walking football, to tech skills, cooking, dance, and support groups for carers.
