BEMSCA

Bath Ethnic Minority Senior Citizens Association (BEMSCA) has been established for over 30 years.  The service is for people of the Caribbean, Asian and Chinese communities in Bath and North East Somerset.  It is recognised as the trusted voice for the communities it serves.

BEMSCA offers a space where all older people can meet and socialise with people from similar ethnic backgrounds to themselves.

They work with wide range of partners in referrals and supporting individuals, to access advice and information on a broad range of health, mental health, housing, and welfare issues, which can be a life-line for people who do not speak English as their first language.

BEMSCA support the elders and wider community of people from age 18 onwards.

Services delivered – by the Community Connector, Asian, Caribbean and Chinese Support workers:

  • day services
  • drop in service
  • planned activities
  • advocacy support at home and in the engagement with services
  • recreational and social activities

They offer support to partners on cultural differences in services.

Languages – mandarin, Cantonese. Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi formal and informal, Benali, and Caribbean dialects.
