International Week of Deaf People
This September, the Royal Association for Deaf people (RAD) are celebrating deaf history, language, culture, creativity and community.
As part of International Week of Deaf People – and RAD’s 185th anniversary year – they are opening their doors for a programme designed to invite people to see, communicate and experience the world from different perspectives.
At the heart of the week will be an exhibition, exploring 185 years of RAD and the people, stories and movements that have shaped their organisation and the wider deaf community.
Alongside the exhibition, there will be opportunities to experience British Sign Language, explore visual communication, discover photography through a deaf lens, celebrate deaf poetry and Visual Vernacular, and hear powerful stories from the deaf community.
Some events are designed especially for people who are completely new to BSL and deaf culture. Others celebrate deaf language, creativity, identity and lived experience.
